A LEGACY OF SPEED

THE ENZO FERRARI MUSEUM
MODENA, ITALY

Walk along the centuries-old cobblestone streets and pass the restaurants that have operated under the same family for generations. Make your way through the city center, where the cathedral has sat for over 900 years. Sit down for an espresso at a bakery serving the same Italian fare for over a century. Take in the layers of history and cultural evolution, making your way closer to your destination: a sprawling modern structure peaking just over a grassy hillside. Inside, you’re greeted with a complete juxtaposition to all the medieval sights you experienced walking through the city. Bright pops of green, unrestrained shades of yellow, and a red that harkens back to nearly 99% of posters hanging on teenage boys walls. Sharp curves and creations capable of mind-boggling feats of speed—an entirely new take on the city is revealed. One that rests on the legacy of a man who dedicated himself to being the fastest, despite the nature of his hometown. Welcome to the Museo Enzo Ferrari in Modena, Italy.

For any automotive or racing obsessive, the Enzo Ferrari Museum is a required visit if you’re ever near Modena. Focusing on the life, impact, and influence of Enzo Ferrari, some of his greatest creations are on full display, as are a number of vehicles that continue to reinforce his legacy of speed. From 1920’s race cars that were personally raced by Mr. Ferrari himself to icons like the 288 GTO, the F40, and championship-winning Formula 1 cars, the range of vehicles and memorabilia on display is vast, to say the least. They’ve even turned Enzo’s childhood home into part of the museum experience.

For those who are not automotive fans, a visit is still recommended. The impact Ferrari has had on this region and Italy as a whole serves as a profound bridge between the old traditions and the newer, more modernized era of the country. Consider it more of a historical visit than one as a fanboy. Besides, I dare anyone not to drop their jaw at the sight of a perfectly restored 70-year-old Italian supercar.

If you’re in the area, we highly recommend checking it out.
